LH Social Co, Inc. (“Lighthouse” or “we”) is a software application that connects nonprofit leaders and enables them to search profiles, share resources, and develop strategic partnerships. Lighthouse can be found by searching thelocallighthouse.com (our “Website), to find, connect, and interact with 501(c)(3) organizations and local municipalities. In providing social impact as a service, we respect your right to privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information (ex: PII, PHI, HIPPA, etc.) 

 

As a Public Benefit Corporation, we operate at a higher standard of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. In line with this, this Privacy Policy (“Policy”) details the information that we collect from individuals, organizations, and other visitors that come to our website. This Policy is an adjacent document to the User Agreement on our website.

1. Information We Collect

 

1.1 Information We Collect Directly From You

Lighthouse allows users to create accounts for certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits and/or local municipalities. After an account is created, Lighthouse reserves the right to collect the following information:

 

Organization account:

  • Name

  • Email

  • E.I.N

  • Location & Service Area (if serves beyond singular address)

  • Keywords tied to account & the category an organization belongs within

 

For the Individual creating the account account:

  • Name

  • Email

 

For Premium Profiles: We use Stripe to collect monthly or annual payments from the payment method an organization share’s when they upgrade their profile


 

1.2 Messaging & Help Center

If you contact customer support through on-site messaging, email, or over the phone the information provided will be used solely to support your questions and to improve/update the information on Lighthouse. This information will be stored anonymously

 

1.3 Information We Collect Through Your Use of Our Website

Lighthouse uses tracking technologies to collect information about how you access Lighthouse and the milestones you complete as a user on our website. These milestones include: 

  • When you sign up

  • When you choose a plan (basic vs. premium)

  • When/if you upgrade to a premium plan

  • When you complete filling out your profile

  • When you browse nonprofits for the first time

  • When you view a nonprofit for the first time

  • When you send and respond to a direct message for the first time

  • When you view the resource exchange for the first time

  • When you view a specific resource for the first time

  • When you claim and/or post a resource for the first time

  • When you successfully receive a resource for the first time

  • When you view and or post on the bulletin board for the first time

  • When you view the community calendar and/or a specific event for the first time

  • When you add an event to the calendar for the first time


 

2. How we use your data 

All data collected and stored through Lighthouse is used to ​​better provide, support, personalize, and develop our Services.

 

2.1 Data Collected From General Use of Services & Lighthouse Features

Lighthouse collects data about your profile to notify you of organizations to connect with. 

 

2.2 Data for Communications

We will contact you through email, notices posted on Lighthouse, messages to your Lighthouse inbox, and other ways through our Services. These modes of communication will be used to inform you about updates to our Services, security, legal notices, or other service-related issues. 

 

2.3 Data for Research and Development

Data on the user profile type and user engagement on Lighthouse will be used to conduct research and develop our Services. This is done to increase the value for all users, increase user acquisition rates, and develop further opportunities to interact and engage across profiles on Lighthouse. We seek to build stronger communities alongside the 501(c)(3) organizations included on the website. To best ensure this mission, we will use data provided by users to better research & understand the social, relational, and economic context within which communities are positioned.

 

Surveys:  Polls and Surveys may be conducted by Lighthouse or any third-party site. You may be invited to participate in these surveys based on a random selection or based on your non-identifiable information such as; organization cause, location, and/or size. Participation in these surveys is optional and the information you provide is completely up to you.

2.4 Data used for analytics

We use the data we collect from our users to produce and share insights and statistics to better understand how our site is performing and to improve the experience for all community members. The data used is outlined in an anonymous form and does not identify you. For example, we may use the data to collect information about organizations’ causes, demographics served etc. 

 

2.5 Data for Customer Support

We collect information when you connect with Lighthouse’s customer support team to accurately categorize and respond to customer inquiries, service issues, or complaints.

 

2.6 Data for Investigative & Security Purposes

At Lighthouse, security is our main priority for all users. We use your data, as well as data from communications, to investigate any fraudulent, unlawful, or improper activity that occurs through the Lighthouse service.

3. Sharing Your Information

 

3.1 Service Providers

Some of the services available on Lighthouse may be completed with the help of outside providers (e.g., customer service, maintenance, analysis, fraud detection, marketing, and development) In the case of an outside provider assisting with the Services available through Lighthouse, these providers will have access to the information and data we collect about your activity on our website (detailed above). This information will be available to providers only to the extent that is reasonably necessary to complete the work on our behalf. These providers are under contract to not share or use this information for any other purpose.

 

3.2 Legal Purposes/ Compliance Protection

We may preserve or disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect Lighthouse’s rights or property. We also may disclose your information as permitted or required by law, for example, in response to court orders, subpoenas, or other requests from government agencies.

 

3.3 Affiliates and Change of Ownership

In the event that Lighthouse undergoes a business transition or change of ownership, such as a merger, acquisition by another company, reorganization, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, or in the event of bankruptcy or administration, we may be required to disclose your information. 

 

3.4 Non-Personal Information

We may share or disclose non-private information, Aggregate Information, or other non-personal Information with people and entities that we do business with. This can include your public nonprofit profile information, public updates, or the number of users who clicked on a particular link.

 

5. Links to other Websites and Services

We are not responsible for the practices employed by websites or services linked to or from the Service, including the information or content contained therein. Please remember that when you use a link to go from the Service to another website, our Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services. Your browsing and interaction on any third-party website or service, including those that have a link on our website, are subject to that third party’s own rules and policies. In addition, you agree that we are not responsible and we do not exercise control over any third parties that you authorize to access your User Content. If you are using a third-party website or service (like Facebook or Twitter) and you allow such third-party access to your User Content, you do so at your own risk. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information we collect by other means (including offline) and from other sources other than through the Service.

6. How long do we keep your information

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services, or otherwise as is reasonable and customary given the nature of the relationship you have with Lighthouse. Please note we may need to retain certain information for record-keeping purposes, and there may also be residual information that will remain within our databases and other records, which will not be removed from such locations. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

7. Control Over Your Information

We want you to be in control of your information, so we provide you with the following tools.

 

7.1 Access and Control of Your Data

At any time you have access to modify, correct, and eliminate the data you supplied to Lighthouse. Users can access and edit most of their basic information directly through their profile page. If you update any of your information, we may keep a copy of the information that you originally provided to us in our archives for uses documented in this policy. 

 

7.2 Deletion

While we hope you’ll always want to be part of the Lighthouse community, if for some reason you ever want to delete your account, When your account is deleted, it is not viewable on the Lighthouse website and all information included on your profile is deleted.

 

8. Security & Protection

For your Personal Identifiable Information, Protected Health Information, and with consideration to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)

 

While data on the personal information you provide to create an organization profile as well as any of your activity on the site can be protected to the best of our ability, any additional information you choose to provide and share with other organizations you connect with is not protected by Lighthouse and these organizations may choose to use and share this information.

 

We are unable to access or control the way organizations use this information. In consideration of this:

  • Only share additional personal information with caution

  • If an organization has tried to coerce you into sharing information, or taken inappropriate measures with any information you have shared with them, you can report them to: hi@thelocallighthouse.com.

9. Policy Towards Children’s Information

Lighthouse does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. The Service and its content are not directed at children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under age 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact the Lighthouse at hi@thelocallighthouse.com.

10. Changes to the privacy policy

We may change this policy from time to time and if we do, we’ll post any changes on this page. If you continue to use Lighthouse after those changes are in effect, you agree to the new policy. If we make a change to this policy that, at our sole discretion, is material, we will notify you.
